Project Overview
This design-build project involved the demolition of the existing Gate House #106 and construction of a new pre-engineered, steel, bullet-resistant facility at the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) Distribution Center in Tracy, California. The objective was to enhance security, improve employee efficiency, reduce traffic congestion, and upgrade overall working conditions. The new structure was built in compliance with UL752 Level 3 protection standards and features approximate base dimensions of 10’-9” x 20’-0” with a 2-foot roof overhang and a Standing Seam Metal Roof System (SSMR). The facility includes a unisex restroom equipped with a lavatory and water closet. The scope included demolition of the existing structure, temporary relocation and secure storage of overhead power lines, and installation of new underground utilities for Gate #106. Pre-construction submittals were prepared, including product data sheets, project schedule, material approvals, and a Site Health & Safety (S&H) Plan. Interior improvements included installation of counters, sliding doors on two sides, and windows, along with contractor-designed secondary electrical and control wiring. Exterior enhancements consisted of six commercial-grade metal floodlights installed at building corners and above doors, each supported by a 24-hour battery backup system. HVAC refrigerant recovery was performed by certified technicians using certified equipment, with recovered ODS refrigerant turned over to the installation as specified. Additional site work included construction of curbs, concrete slabs, gutters, sidewalks, storm drainage systems, water supply connections, raised medians, lighting, signalization, and electrical utilities. The contractor also cleared and reinstalled existing K-Rail barriers and ensured the emergency panic button system, including protected wiring, was properly re-used and reinstalled within the new Gate House. The completed project delivers a secure, code-compliant, and operationally efficient entry control facility.
